Striking interplay of textures is created with the use of corten steel and wood that results in a combination of industrial ruggedness and organic warmth. The composition is made up of two distinct parts: Oxidised corten steel, which represents a sense of natural decay and resilience through its rich rusted patina, arranged in an angular fragmented manner that evoke a sense of movement, tension and an explosive transformation. The lower section of wooden slats with a deep charred finish create a contrasting sense of grounding and stability with its vertical elements that represent tree trunks as well as architectural structures. Additionally, a thin copper-like line accentuates the dialogue between the materials and creates a subtle connection between the two sections.
Corten Wood is an artwork that calls attention to the harmonious tension between nature and industry, chaos and order, rigidity and fluidity. It highlights the interplay of materials, textures and the passage of time as the natural oxidation of the corten steel evolves. Furthermore, it calls attention to the beauty found in contrast, where raw materials are transformed into a poetic and thought provoking visual experience.
