Throughout his career, Rodin was fascinated with hands. The hands of The Thinker, The Cathedral and The Hand of God are most prominent among many subjects. Shortly before his death, Rodin allowed his own right hand to be cast. Made by Amadee Berhault, this form is an assemblage of the hand of Rodin and one of the many small torsos his hand had fashioned. The assemblage represents ideas about the creative powers of the artist, which can be seen as parallel to those of God. The same idea can be found in the monumental Hand of God.
