DIPLOPIA : A Journey Through the Layers of Perception

27 September - 27 November 2024
DIPLOPIA showcases eight contemporary artists exploring the tension between reality and illusion through immersive 3D and lenticular artworks.
"Diplopia" is a compelling exhibition at miart Gallery that features the works of eight contemporary artists, each bringing their unique interpretations to the themes of perception and illusion. By utilising innovative 3D and lenticular techniques, the artists create immersive experiences that challenge viewers' understanding of reality. The title, which refers to the optical condition of double vision, reflects the duality present in the artworks, where clarity and distortion coexist, prompting contemplation of how we perceive the world around us. Artists Lorenzo Quinn, Gary James McQueen, Eda Baysal, Derrick Santini, Nick Veasey, Selda Gunes, Peter Combe, and Alex Knapic collectively invite audiences to engage with the complexities of sight, encouraging them to look beyond the surface and explore the layered nature of visual experience. Through this exploration, "Diplopia" transforms the act of viewing into a profound journey that blurs the lines between reality and imagination, ultimately revealing the intricate interplay of perception in everyday life.
